Water is a limited resource for Colorado’s expanding metro areas.
As development continues, the search for water is expanding to rural areas further and further away from these urban areas.
As Cory Gaines explains, farms hundreds of miles away are selling their water rights to cities and their new developments.
Pulling water out of these rural areas can create serious problems for those communities who rely on agriculture for their livelihood.
Of course, the Governor, and the State Legislature are mandating local governments implement high-density zoning & affordable housing in areas these communities don’t want.
Water rights are complicated, and the future of Colorado’s rural communities may depend on advocates who want to preserve the Colorado way-of-life.
