The Colorado Legislature has a controversial process to replace legislators who resign.
Vacancy Committees appoint replacement legislators instead of voters.
This selection process is anti-democratic because it’s often 30 or so people who decide who is appointed to make laws and vote in the State Legislature.
But it gets worse…
Democrats have found a loophole that gives their replacement an additional year in the Legislature beyond the normal term limit amount.
Of course, this is an addition to all the advantages that an incumbent receives when they run for reelection.
