In November 2022, Colorado voters passed Proposition 122, the Natural Medicine Health Act (NHMA).
This revolutionary ballot measure will create a regulated market for medical use of psychedelic plant medicine including dimethyltryptamine (DMT), ibogaine, mescaline (excluding peyote), psilocybin, and psilocyn.
And even more important, the NHMA allows Coloradoans 21-years and older to possess personal use amounts of these substances without fear of arrest or violence from Colorado law enforcement.
Colorado voters chose real criminal justice reform when they voted in favor of this initiative.
For many Colorado Democrats, supporting NHMA was an easy decision.
After all, the current party platform of the Colorado Democratic Party clearly declares, “End the War on Drugs. Focus on treatment, not criminalization.”
Many Colorado Democrat voters may be surprised to learn that many prominent Colorado Democratic leaders publicly opposed the NHMA, going so far as to sign a letter!
These Anti-Natural Medicine Colorado Democrats include:
Phil Weiser, Colorado Attorney General (2019 to present)
Michael Hancock, Denver Mayor (2011 to present)
Chris Hansen, State Senator (31), Denver (2021 to present), State Representative (2017 to 2020)
Chris Kolker, State Senator (16), Jefferson & Arapahoe (2021 to present)
Kevin Priola, State Senator (13), Adams & Weld (2017 to present), State Representative (2009 to 2017)
Judy Amabile, State Representative (49), Boulder, Clear Creek, Gilpin & Larimer (2021 to present)
Tracey Bernett, State Representative (12), (2021 to 2023)
Shannon Bird, State Representative (29), (2019 to present) Adams & Jefferson
Kyle Mullica, State Representative (24), Adams
Ilana Spiegel, University of Colorado Board of Regents District 6 (2021 to present)
Marta Loachamin, Boulder County Commissioner District 2
These authoritarian politicians made it clear that they do not support freedom of the individual.
Not only that, but their pro-drug war attitude is a disgrace to the Democratic voters who elected them.
This letter was put together by Blue Rising Together, an anti-cannabis and anti-gun non-profit.
You can read the whole letter here:
Who is Blue Rising?
Blue Rising Together’s purpose is “to raise awareness” about high-potency THC content in Colorado’s legal cannabis according to Executive Director Dawn Reinfeld.
In 2021, Reinfeld bragged that “we were just able to get the largest regulatory bill passed to curb high-potency THC… in Colorado since we’ve had legalization.”
Blue Rising Colorado also has a Small Donor Committee, registered with the state of Colorado.
Whether it’s guns or legal cannabis, Blue Rising seems intent on advocating for the State to violate the rights of Coloradoans.
Unfortunately, there are many anti-freedom groups like Blue Rising operating in Colorado.
It’s long past time that their efforts were exposed.
Conclusion
The rights of Coloradoans are under threat from politicians.
Voters must realize that Democrats do not necessarily support ending the disastrous war on drugs.
If you believe in the freedom of consciousness, I recommend you pay close attention to the efforts of authoritarian politicians like those listed above.
Now more than ever, the opportunity exists to end the war on drugs.
In order to create a Free State, Coloradoans must hold authoritarian politicians accountable.
Free People must not remain silent when their rights are threatened.
