Weld County Sued Over Justice Center Project! Did the County Commissioners Follow the Law?

What can you do when politicians exceed their authority?

You fight them in court.

That’s what Elijah Hatch is doing in Weld County.

Elijah is the President of the Weld County Council, past Chairman of the Weld County Planning Commission and past President of the Weld County Fair Board.

The Weld County Commissioners have seemingly violated Colorado’s Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights and the Weld County Home Rule Charter.

The Commissioners are attempting to build a new nearly half-a-billion dollar judicial center without asking the voters for approval.

And it’s going to be up to the court to determine if Weld County is able to legally do this without public approval.

Of course, the Commissioners are claiming that this new judicial center is necessary for the future of the County and required by law.

But as Elijah points out, the county doesn’t actually need an expensive new building. All the county needs is an additional courtroom and building a new courtroom doesn’t need to cost half-a-billion dollars.
